BRAVE NEW WORLD: The Transhuman Scrapbook, DARPA’S Plan for Cyborgs – By Joseph P. Farrell

“The next stage that the powers that be want in their endless pursuit of control over the individual and the collectivization of society, is to eliminate the external connection all together”:

Mr V.T. sent this article along, and I want to talk about it, particularly in connection to the blog I did a few days ago about the latest transhumanist project, that of mapping the brains of the dead, and uploading them into new “bodies”, for there is, I’m going to suggest, a connection, a hidden agenda, as it were, driving all of this, and it’s a military one. The latest news from the Diabolically Apocalyptic Research Projects Agency(our nickname here, thanks to the suggestion of Mr. J.B., for DARPA or the Defense Adcance Research Projects Agency), concerns ongoing research in human-computer interfaces:

Bridging the Bio-Electronic Divide

Of course, we have the now-traditional bow and advocacy point that all of this is really beneficial, because it will provide new therapeutic technologies and techniques:

A new DARPA program aims to develop an implantable neural interface able to provide unprecedented signal resolution and data-transfer bandwidth between the human brain and the digital world. The interface would serve as a translator, converting between the electrochemical language used by neurons in the brain and the ones and zeros that constitute the language of information technology. The goal is to achieve this communications link in a biocompatible device no larger than one cubic centimeter in size, roughly the volume of two nickels stacked back to back.

The program, Neural Engineering System Design (NESD), stands to dramatically enhance research capabilities in neurotechnology and provide a foundation for new therapies.

“Today’s best brain-computer interface systems are like two supercomputers trying to talk to each other using an old 300-baud modem,” said Phillip Alvelda, the NESD program manager. “Imagine what will become possible when we upgrade our tools to really open the channel between the human brain and modern electronics.”

Among the program’s potential applications are devices that could compensate for deficits in sight or hearing by feeding digital auditory or visual information into the brain at a resolution and experiential quality far higher than is possible with current technology.(Emphasis added)

But there’s a social engineering scheme at work in this, and I hope you caught it; consider this revelation and its implications:

“To accelerate that integrative process, the NESD program aims to recruit a diverse roster of leading industry stakeholders willing to offer state-of-the-art prototyping and manufacturing services and intellectual property to NESD researchers on a pre-competitive basis. In later phases of the program, these partners could help transition the resulting technologies into research and commercial application spaces.”(Emphases added)

In other words, you can forget about your ipads and iphones; the next stage that the powers that be want in their endless pursuit of control over the individual and the collectivization of society, is to eliminate the external connection all together: “need an ipad or a cell phone? Schedule yourself for an out-patient implant surgery today, and get a rebate for X dollars!” And for those disputing the continued viability of the dollar as a reserve currency, consider the implications of such a step for ensuring the continuance of that status. Could this be the reason China and Russia are moving so quickly in similar initiatives for “digital currencies” to be coupled with their financial clearing systems?

However, there’s a military agenda here, and it’s hinted at not only here, but in that article from a few days ago that I blogged about concerning the mapping of the brains of the dead and the ability to download them. This requires a bit of imagination and high octane speculation, but it is relatively easy to see the military application connecting the two. If one can imagine the “brain project” successfully developing technologies not only to “map” the neural net of a living human and living brain, then it takes but a little push of the imagination to envision a technology that could conceivable stimulate a “recently-dead” brain to map it as well, and to “scan” and “read” it. After all, if one can “download and upload” then memories of such a brain, then one perforce has the ablity to scan and read it.

The military – even forensic – value of such a technology would be almost invaluable and incalculable. Imagine the revisions to the rules of jurisprudence that would ensue: dead man’s testimony might literally become a reality, as the technology would conceivable allow, for example, the “interrogation” or “testimony” of the victim of a murder. Equally, it would allow the military to recover the memories of dead soldiers and to reconstruct operations that would provide a goldmine for tactical and operational analysis. Dead enemies could be “interrogated” for information, giving rise to a new “intelligence source.”

The bottom line of all these high octane speculations is once again that if we can think of it, they probably already have, and are probably already hard at work, and indeed, may already have rudimentary capabilities in this direction. The era of “mind mapped intelligence sources” and “necro-neural forensics” may be approaching faster than we think.

See you on the flip side…

Joseph P. Farrell has a doctorate in patristics from the University of Oxford, and pursues research in physics, alternative history and science, and “strange stuff”. His book The Giza DeathStar, for which the Giza Community is named, was published in the spring of 2002, and was his first venture into “alternative history and science”.
