What is Ultraculture University—and Why Was it Started?
This is an experiment in online education—currently, Ultraculture U. consists of weekly courses taught by me (Jason Louv), the editor of the group blog Ultraculture.org. I’m hoping to add new instructors as time goes on.
This program was born out of my overwhelming frustration at the general lack of good sources of information on both practical and esoteric skills for making life better. There’s a lot of info on these topics on the Internet, but fifty times as much disinformation and noise. You can spend years wading through crap information on some of the traditionally “occult” topics taught here in order to get to a core of good information that somebody could have passed on to you in an afternoon. In fact, in many cases I did just that. Luckily, I can now pass that information on to you in, well, an afternoon.
Secondly, I believe there is a real hunger for information on practical spirituality. We all know that mass culture is shallow and doesn’t add any value whatsoever to people’s lives. That value, I believe, can come from many of the world’s esoteric and spiritual traditions—I also believe that there is a deep, widespread interest in these things right now specifically because mass culture is not serving those needs.
Who Are You And Why Should I Listen to You?
I’m the editor of Ultraculture.org. I’ve also released five books on practical instruction related to the topics taught at Ultraculture U., including Generation Hex, Ultraculture Journal and Thee Psychick Bible (With Genesis Breyer P-Orridge). I’ve spent the last sixteen years of my life delving into every single tradition and technology for changing human consciousness I could get my hands on, traveling the world to learn many techniques first-hand from other cultures. Doesn’t look great on a resume for a “real” job, but it’s damn good experience for teaching and passing on some of the things I’ve learned. (Check out a free video of me giving a presentation on magick here.)
OK. But How Do I Know I’m Getting My Money’s Worth?
Check out a few testimonials from people who have taken the courses, below!
“Jason is a gentleman and a scholar. His clear and lucid instruction ensures that all of his students grasp the material; his patience and kindness makes every student—regardless of experience—feel welcome and at ease, and his knowledge and command of the material will leave you in awe. After spending just a few hours with him on a Saturday afternoon, I can honestly say that my magick practice has intensely deepened and been far more effective. Occulture is privileged to have someone like Jason who has the vision of making the material accessible and the passion to bring it into manifest reality. For a small amount of money you can make REAL CHANGE in your life!” – Andrei B., Glendale, CA
“The Lucid Dreaming seminar was well worth the time, and certainly the cost. The discussion covered plenty of practical approaches which could be applied immediately, and also delved into other elements such as further reading to pursue and dietary supplements to aid in one’s practice. In the month and a half since I took the course, my dream recall has significantly improved (I went from recalling basically nothing to filling multiple pages in my dream journal each morning), and I feel like I’ve gleaned valuable tools from the experience that will aid me for years to come.” – Grant N.
“I’m fascinated by the occult and the power of ritual, but I’ve never been able to really believe in anything supernatural. The Intro to Chaos Magick course has been invaluable to me in exploring some novel, deeply rewarding and, honestly, really fun ways of experiencing reality.” – Freddy C.
“I’ll admit that at first, I was skeptical of paying for an intro video despite how much I enjoy the Ultraculture blog and the small bit of Mr. Louv that I’d seen. I was so pleasantly surprised! The topics that Jason covered were, for the most part, things that I had encountered before. What made the class worth it was Jason’s knowledgable insight and personal touch. What I got to see in the video challenged some of my previously conceived viewpoints and provided insight on some topics that I was not aware of. Keep it up, Jason.” – Josh F., New York
What Do I Need in Order to Attend a Webinar?
Really just a decent computer and a stable net connection. The Webinars are currently conducted through Anymeeting, a pretty all-around-excellent platform which allows large numbers of simultaneous participants. You’ll be able to see the instructor and ask questions over chat during the live presentation. Anymeeting will provide you with software when you get the sign-up link. You can also view the Webinars through mobile or tablet; just get the Anymeeting apps for iOS or Android.
Do I Have to Be Present During the Actual Time a Webinar is Presented?
Thankfully, no. If you sign up for a class, all you have to do is log in with your email and the password you received upon registering. Please mail us at ultraculturegate -at- gmail -dot- com with any questions you may have.
Are You an Accredited University?
For now, no, although if anybody knows if there’s a way I can actually offer some kind of college credit, I’m all ears.
I Have an Idea for a Course. Where Can I Let You Know?
Great! Please e-mail us at ultraculturegate -at- gmail -dot- com, along with any other questions!
