The Toyota i-Road may be the future of compact cars.  It is an electric vehicle, so the need for gasoline and reliance on oil becomes a moot point.  Electric vehicles seem to be the wave of the future – and the future looks pretty bright! These vehicles are energy efficient, environmentally friendly, require less maintenance than traditional cars and reduce dependence on foreign energy sources. (1)

As with all good things though, there are drawbacks.  Some limitations include the driving range per charge, the recharge time, the cost of batteries, and the weight of batteries. (1) As technology continues to improve, it is likely that any drawbacks will become less of an issue.  In the short time that electric vehicles have been available to consumers, the driving range has significantly improved and the cost of these vehicles has lessened or at least leveled out.
