– Many Canadian cities have figured out that rewarding good deeds instead of punishing for bad ones, actually motivates youth to do more good deeds. Eureka! The Positive Ticketing Campaign is when a police officer witnesses a youth doing a good deed, whether it be using a helmet when riding a bike, or returning a wallet to its rightful owner. The officer then offers a Positive Ticket to the good samaritan and typically shakes their hand.
In Toronto, police have been practicing positive ticketing since 2013.
But the positive tickets also come with extra perks. In some cases it’s also a coupon for McDonalds, a movie voucher, store credit or access to community activities.

The most recent city to join the campaign of positive ticketing was Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Here’s another instance of police ticketing in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
