– Chicago dad, Christopher Kaelin, has scored a hat trick — he won the same lottery three times in three consecutive weeks for a grand total of $276,000
The 31-year-old even made a mistake with his third big win on the Illinois Lottery when he mis-read the amount as $25,000 dollars instead of $250,000
He said: “At first we were just ‘oh my God.’ It was a feel-good moment, we just couldn’t believe it,” when he won his first $25,000 on a scratch-off ticket in early April.
“My fiancé and I were so thrilled we went out for dinner to celebrate. When we stopped at a gas station, I decided to buy another instant ticket and won $1,000.” With Lady Luck on his side he returned a week later to the same newstand and purchased a ticket which revealed what he thought was a $25,000 win only to realize it was far greater.
His immediate plans are sensible and include paying off student loans, buying a house, paying for his wedding and saving for his daughter’s college fund. “It’s life changing in the sense that you don’t have to go into debt for a wedding or to buy a house,” he says.
Illinois Lottery spokesman Mike Lang told the Huffington Post, “I’ve been with the lottery since 1990 and don’t recall anyone winning three times in such a short duration.”
